The Charge of Imrahil

In the third book ot LotR, The Return of the King, there is a really cool moment when Faramir and the Osgiliath garrison are harassed by the Nazgûl and by haradrim cavalry while retreating after beign heavly outnumbered and overruned. To impede the anihilation of Faramir and his remaining men, Imrahil, the prince of Dol Amroth, and Gandalf, commanded the Swan Knights and all the remaining horsemen in the White City in a massive cavalry charge to put to flight the enemies and cover the retreat of the Steward's son. The charge is a massive success, but the gondorian cavalry is unable to pull the enemy further because the huge numbers of the Mordor army at the other side of the river. Also because Faramir was wounded by a poisoned arrow.

In the drawing there is a mix of Swan Knights and knights of the white city really, but I didn't drew anything to distiguish them, besides the white swan in the shield of Imrahil. By the way, in the "nordic style" standard I drew the White Tree and the normal white standard have writen in it the tenwar runes of Arandur, wich means steward in quenya.
All the soldiers are equiped like cataphracts of the Comnenian dinasty, with mail armor as the main component, lamellar or scale on top of it, with splinted vambraces and greaves. Some soldiers and the prince himself wears a padded jacket over the armor as aditional protection. All the helmets have full face aventails. The only thing that was not used by the cataphracts was the bazubands, that plate vambraces that I drew on Imrahil and other knights.
All the horses are clad in lamellar armor with this creepy eye protection.

I have to say, was a lot of work, but it didn't take me really much time. Wasn't quick of course, but I finished it in like 3 or 4 days I think. If the last year I had been asked how long it would take me to do something like that, I would have answered weeks!
